Residol

The high-boiling residue obtained after vacuum distillation of Cardanol from Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) — a thick, dark, highly viscous phenolic material valued wherever high-viscosity phenolic raw materials are required.

Dark, highly viscous Residol liquid in laboratory beaker — high-boiling residue from CNSL distillation

High-Boiling Residue,
High-Value Material

Residol is the high-boiling residue obtained after the vacuum distillation of Cardanol from Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL). It is a thick, dark brown to black, highly viscous liquid formed primarily due to the polymerization of the non-cardanol components present in CNSL.

Its unique characteristics make it a valuable raw material for various industrial applications, particularly where high-viscosity phenolic materials are required — from friction materials and phenolic resins to industrial binders, adhesives, and low-cost industrial fuel blending.

How Residol is Formed
Step 1: Cashew Nut Shell Liquid (CNSL) is charged to the distillation reactor.
Step 2: The CNSL is heated under vacuum at approximately 280°C.
Step 3: Cardanol vaporizes and is collected by condensation.
Step 4: The non-volatile residue remaining in the reactor is called Residol.

What Defines Our
Residol?

A robust, high-viscosity phenolic material with predictable handling behaviour — backed by documentation-driven quality on every shipment.

High-Boiling Residue
Obtained during cardanol production as the non-volatile fraction of CNSL vacuum distillation — a concentrated phenolic raw material.
Dark Brown to Black Appearance
Characteristic deep colour formed primarily by the polymerization of the non-cardanol components present in CNSL.
Thick, Highly Viscous Liquid
High viscosity makes Residol ideal for applications demanding body and binding strength in phenolic formulations.
Temperature-Dependent Viscosity
Viscosity increases at low temperatures — heating may be required before pumping or handling to restore flow.
Independent Quality Verification
Independent CoA issued per shipment, with third-party inspection facility available for complete buyer confidence.
Bio-Based & Traceable
Derived entirely from renewable cashew nut shell feedstock with structured sourcing and full supply-chain traceability.
